01 The full stop. A perfect disc as heavy as the letters: the whole brand idea in one mark.
02 Cup as second logo. The wordmark repeats small on the takeaway cup, so the photo carries the brand without a caption.
03 Low afternoon light. Sun rakes across plaster and stone; the light sets the mood, not props.
04 Geometric capitals. A GOOD PLACE TO PAUSE. in espresso brown, stacked in three short lines with round, open O's.
05 Italic serif aside. Coffee, at your pace. switches to an italic serif, the softer second voice.
06 One rounded corner. The photo ends in a single large curve where it meets the cream column.

About the project
The full write-up, if you want it. About 4 minutes.
01Brief and idea
The problem, and the one idea that answers it.1 min
The brief
A neighbourhood coffee shop is sold on feel: the light, the seats, the cup in your hand. The brief we set ourselves: a site a regular can check for the menu in ten seconds, that still tells a newcomer this is a place to sit down, not just a counter to queue at.
The idea
Say less. The name is a full stop, so the page behaves like one: short lines that end in full stops, and wide pauses of cream between them. The hero splits in two, a single takeaway cup in low afternoon light on one side and the headline on the other. Below, the room gets a tall photo of its own, three favourites stand in a numbered row, and the page closes on a small note form headed A little hello? rather than a hard sell.
02The write-up
The design, decision by decision.5 chapters · 2 min
A name that is a pause
DOT. is imagined as a speciality coffee shop in Dubai Design District, and its whole identity hangs on the punctuation in its name. The wordmark sets DOT in heavy geometric capitals and finishes with a full stop drawn as a perfect disc, sitting on the baseline and wider than any stroke in the letters. That stop becomes the rule for the page. Headlines end on one, lines stay short, and the layout leaves long stretches of cream between sections, so reading the site feels like the pause the café is selling.
One cup, one wall, one line
The hero is split unevenly. On the left, well over half the width goes to a plaster wall in low afternoon sun, with a single takeaway cup standing on a stone counter and the wordmark in cream above it. On the right, a cream column holds three links, OUR PLACE, MENU and SAY HELLO, then A GOOD PLACE TO PAUSE. in espresso brown, an italic Coffee, at your pace. and one button, Explore the menu. Where photo meets column, the image ends in a single wide curve at the bottom corner, which softens the whole split.
Selling the seat, not the queue
A café that wants people to stay has to show the chairs. Below the hero, YOUR DAILY DETOUR, WORTH TAKING. sits over a small photograph of a cup on a wooden table, next to a vase of white flowers and a book, with sun falling across the grain. Three short sentences follow, then an italic line in brown: Come for your usual. Stay for a little longer. To the right, a larger photograph opens up the whole room, with wooden chairs, a leather banquette, plants and a hanging lamp, its top left corner rounded to echo the hero.
A menu written as a list
The menu here is not a board, just a short list. LITTLE THINGS. LOVELY RITUALS. runs in two lines on the left, and A FEW HOUSE FAVOURITES sits far off to the right in small spaced capitals. Each item is numbered above its photo, 01 / FLAT WHITE, 02 / BUTTER CROISSANT, 03 / BASQUE CHEESECAKE, and each is shot at a café table in the same slanting light. Under the pictures come a few words, such as Flaky, golden, baked daily., and a price. One brown pill, See the full menu, handles everything else.
A note instead of a sales pitch
The page closes without an offer. The footer repeats the wordmark large in espresso brown, with GOOD COFFEE. GOOD COMPANY. beneath it, a row of three links and an Instagram glyph. Opposite, a small form asks A LITTLE HELLO? and explains itself in one line: Questions, collaborations or just a kind word. Its three fields, name, email and message, are drawn as single underlines rather than boxes, so the form reads like a lined notecard, and the button says Send a note. For a neighbourhood café, that softer ask suits the place better than a hard call to action.
03Type and voice
Type, colour, photography and the lines on the page.3 roles
- Display
- Geometric capitals with round O's and open counters, printed big in espresso brown and stacked in short lines.
- Supporting
- An italic serif with a calligraphic slant, kept for single quiet lines between the capitals.
- Labels
- Small capitals with wide tracking, numbered with a slash for each menu item.
A geometric sans in capitals for the wordmark and headlines, and an italic serif for softer lines like Coffee, at your pace. Small, widely spaced capitals for labels. Colour is cream and espresso brown, with the plaster and wood tones of the photographs doing the rest. The light is low and golden, with long shadows across every table. Images take generous rounded corners, and wide margins keep each section uncrowded.
A GOOD PLACE TO PAUSE.
Coffee, at your pace.
YOUR DAILY DETOUR, WORTH TAKING.
Come for your usual. Stay for a little longer.
A LITTLE HELLO?
Quiet, brief and full of stops. The capitals make one statement, the italics add one kind afterthought, and almost nothing runs past six words, so the page sounds like someone in no hurry.
